Regt. Sgt. Maj. William McCurtis, of The 9th Memorial Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers of Phoenix, Arizona presented "Isaiah Mays" soil sample to Ft. McKavett, the Buffalo Soldier home of Mr. Mays.  This presentation was November 4th, 2002. This sample was taken from his grave site last November, 2001 at a ceremony that placed his headstone at the Arizona State Hospital in Phoenix.  Mr. McCurtis was presented this soil sample at Mr. Mays Headstone dedication ceremony.  This information will also be forwarded to Arizona's prestigious Congressman, JD.
There will be a 2,200 plus mile trek across Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and finally New Orleans to take these Buffalo Soldiers "Home.   Soil samples have been collected from the grave sites at many of the Old Forts that may have remains of 9th US Cavalry "Buffalo Soldiers.

The ride is called The "Journey Home".   This ride will be in honor of the Buffalo Soldiers so that they may get the recognition that is due to them; and also to take them HOME to the birthplace of the Ninth Cavalry since so many of them gave their lives for this country or were unable to return home in one way or another.

Mr. McCurtis will also be at Fort Hood, Texas on November 12, 2002. This fort has a regiment of the Horse Cavalry on its base.  The organization that put this together is dedicated to the history and preservation of these men known as "Buffalo Soldiers" from the 9th US Cavalry.

Sincerely in Dedication to this cause.....
